Have you ever wanted to know how early man and prehistoric people made the stone tools they needed for survival? The art of flint-knapping is a skill that has been forgotten since the end of the Bronze Age.
However in this Masterclass, visitors can learn to make primitive utility tools such as hand-axes, scrapers and possibly arrowheads from brittle flint with master flint-knapper, primitive technologist and archaeologist Karl Lee.
Karl will start our worshop with a demonstration of the techniques and processes involved in flint-knapping, before setting participants the task of making their own flint tools, using ancient tools such as hammer stones. He has over 20 years of experience of teaching the manufacture and use of stone (lithic), bone and wooden tools.
This workshop is part of the Festival of Stuff.
